The legendary sacred founder of Korea in 2333 B.C. He established the Kingdom of Gojoseon.
Dan-Gun (단군) takes its name from the legendary founder of Korea in 2333 B.C., who established the kingdom of Gojoseon. Its 21 movements are executed exclusively with high blocks (nopunde) except for a single mid-level strike, symbolizing the moral elevation of the Korean people under Dangun. It is the Tul for 8° Gup (yellow belt) and is required in the examination for yellow belt with green stripe. It introduces the double knife hand block (sang sonkal makgi), the ascending hook strike, and the L-shaped standing position (niunja sogi). It is executed in an I-shaped diagram. It forms part of the mandatory curriculum for all ITF practitioners.
