So-San (서산) honors Grand Master Choi Hyong Ung (1520–1604), a Buddhist monk who organized 5,000 warrior monks to defend Korea from the Japanese Imjin invasion. Its 72 movements represent his age when he led the monk army. It is the longest Tul in the Chang Hon system. Required at 5th and 6th Dan. It introduces the double fan block (anuro doo palmok makgi), the scissor kick (kawi chagi), and the sevenfold combination of continuous flying kicks. Its complete execution exceeds six minutes and is considered the definitive physical test of the advanced practitioner. It combines monastic serenity with warrior explosion, reflecting the duality of its creator.
