Toi-Gye (퇴계) is the pseudonym of scholar Yi Hwang (1501–1570), a great Neoconfucianist thinker. Its 37 movements correspond to the 37 degrees of latitude of his birthplace. The diagram forms the word 'scholar' in ancient hangul. It is the Tul for 3rd Gup (blue belt with red tip). It introduces the W-shaped block (san makgi), the X-shaped double block (kyocha makgi), and the foot-sole kick (sewo chagi). The waiting positions (gunnun sogi sasun) and the first 360° spinning kick appear. Red belt approaches: the body learns to rotate without losing its center.
