Yul-Gok (율곡) is the pseudonym of neo-Confucian philosopher Yi I (1536–1584), called 'the Confucius of Korea'. Its 38 movements represent the 38 degrees of latitude of his birthplace, and the diagram of the pattern forms the Chinese character 士 (scholar). It is the Tul for 5th Gup (green belt with blue stripe). It introduces the jumping kick (twio chagi) and the three-direction block, along with the first kick-punch-punch combination to appear in Chang Hon. It reflects intellectual maturity before the blue belt: strength is subordinated to thought.
