Poet and official Chong Mong-Chu (14th century) of the Koryo Dynasty. Symbol of loyalty to the king and homeland — he refused to change sides even at the cost of his life.
Po-Eun (포은) is the pen name of poet and official Chong Mong-Chu (14th century), who served faithfully to the Koryo Dynasty. His poem 'though they kill me a hundred times, I will remain loyal to the king' made him a national symbol of loyalty. Its 36 movements are executed in a straight horizontal line, symbolizing the unwavering loyalty that never deviates. It is a 1st Dan Tul. It introduces the fingertip block (sonkut tulgi), the simultaneous two-handed opposite-direction block strike, and the full horizontal stance. The linear movement contrasts with all previous Tul: none turns in a U or I pattern, moving only back and forth along the same line.
